Professor Lu is the director of Fudan's Global Partnerships Office and Confucius Institutes Office, and a professor of English literature.
She was born in Taiwan, and received her BA from Chengchi University. Later she took her MA and PhD at the University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow in Scotland. Professor Lu joined Fudan University in 1997.
She is interested in identity politics and the formation of subjectivity. Her research areas include Anglo-American Literary Modernism, Feminist Literary Criticism and Women's Writing, and Gender Studies, H. C. Andersen and the rise of China’s Modern Children’s Literature.
Lian is the Fullbright scholar at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2009-10, and served as the Associate Dean in the School of Foreign Languages from 2014 to 2019. In August 2019, she took her current position and joined the advisory board of CI Auckland.
