The Confucius Institute in Auckland successfully held the first Youth Chinese Test (YCT) of the year in August. Targeted for learners under 15 years old, a total of 232 young candidates from St Heliers Primary School, Milford School, Holy Cross Catholic School, Western Chinese Education Centre, Saint Kentigern Boy’s and Girl’s Schools and a few others sat the exam.

The YCT exam has received increasing interest from Auckland primary and secondary schools in recent years. Schools, by participating in the exam are able to, not only ‘assess’ their students’ Chinese proficiency at an international level but also to acknowledge their students’ achievements and to also help build their confidence to continue with their Chinese learning.
