We are moving most of our language courses online in 2022 to provide continuous learning for students. Classes will be delivered locally or remotely by experienced Chinese teachers from our Chinese partner Fudan University. We hope the online courses will be more convenient and more accessible to a wider group of people.

Before opening for enrollment, all potential students are invited to a Pre-registration Survey to help us determine courses for Term 1 and the year. If you are interested in learning Chinese with us, please take the survey and tell us your study plan. Additional courses will be available if there is a demand. Minimum numbers will be required and we do allow flexibility in our courses to best meet the needs of our students. Information about the teachers and tentative course plan is available on the Course page.

All survey participants will receive a 15% OFF discount coupon to redeem their Term 1 course payment.

Learn Chinese Mandarin for beginners, a language spoken by over one billion people!

The Confucius Institute in Auckland is offering a structured series of Mandarin language courses in 2021. Each course runs for ten weeks, with 1.5-hour evening classes held once a week, instructed by experienced teachers from the Confucius Institute.

About the Course

This is a beginner’s course to support learners with no or very little knowledge of the Chinese language who want to use basic Chinese in daily communications. This course will also create a good foundation for further learning of Chinese.

  The course will cover:

  • an introduction to the Chinese pronunciation system using pinyin
  • introducing yourself
  • telling the time
  • dates
  • basic conversation and more.

 

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • pronounce Modern Standard Chinese using pinyin
  • use simple expressions
  • exchange basic greetings
  • talk about occupations
  • use Chinese numbers in your daily life eg. count, age, date and time.

Learn Chinese Mandarin for beginners, a language spoken by over one billion people!

The Confucius Institute in Auckland is offering a structured series of Mandarin language courses in 2021. Each course runs for ten weeks, with 1.5-hour evening classes held once a week, instructed by experienced teachers from the Confucius Institute.

About the Course

Participants should know at least 600 Chinese words and beyond basic grammar patterns.

This course is designed to help participants refine their presentation skills, to help make a smooth transition between colloquial Chinese and written Chinese. Discussion, debate, and presentation are important components of this course.

There are 3 levels to this course:

  • Level 4A
  • Level 4B
  • Level 4C

The aim is to pass the HSK-4 exam (optional).

 

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

Participants who pass the exam at this level can converse in Chinese on a wide range of topics and are able to communicate fluently with native Chinese speakers.

This course will enhance your speaking skills to produce simple connected text on topics related to your daily, academic, and professional lives, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Content will be at the discretion of the teacher and student needs.

There are 3 levels to this course:

  • Level 3A
  • Level 3B
  • Level 3C

The aim is to pass the HSK-3 exam (optional).

 

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

Participants who pass the exam at this level can communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily, academic and professional lives. They can manage most communication in Chinese when travelling in China.

Participants should know at least 150 Chinese words and some basic grammar patterns.

This course aims to expand your vocabulary with Chinese Proficiency HSK-2 words and patterns while reviewing Chinese Conversation Level 1 (HSK-1) related words.

You will be able to produce simple connected text on topics related to your daily life and make some basic comments on things around you.

Content will be at the discretion of the teacher and student needs.

The aim is to pass the HSK-2 exam (optional).

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

Participants who pass the exam at this level have an excellent grasp of basic Chinese and can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
