Henderson Intermediate School
CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE
Waitakere Mandarin Cluster
The first New Zealand Confucius Classroom was launched at Henderson Intermediate School on 2 June 2010.
The Confucius Classroom grew from the participation of principals from five West Auckland schools in the New Zealand Principals’ Delegation to China in 2009 led by the Confucius Institute in Auckland.
The principals’ resulting enthusiasm for China and their realisation of the opportunities available for young New Zealanders able to speak Mandarin led them to submit the application to initiate a Confucius Classroom in their school community.
The Waitakere Confucius Classroom used to meet once a term with five or six students from each school to share what they had learned and also to experience a Chinese lunch.
Trips to China
Henderson Intermediate students have enjoyed trips to China to experience the country and practise their language skills. Read their stories in China.
